What Is mSpy Encrypted Data and How to Use Your Private Key?

Jeremy Brighton

There’s not a lot of privacy for you when you go online. Why? Because your data is the most important thing in today’s digital environment.

Google and Facebook are known to collect and sell your private data to advertisers. What’s more, thousands of online scammers seek ways to steal your identity and credit card details. That’s why you need to take care of your privacy.

How Can I Protect My Privacy Online?

Although your data privacy depends significantly on global corporations, you can still do something to secure yourself online. It’s good to know that you have a few efficient ways to protect your privacy:

  • Double-check what you share on social media;
  • Encrypt your emails and messages, just like we do at mSpy;
  • Browse sites in incognito mode;
  • Read the terms of services before using a product.

What Is Encryption?

mspy encrypted data

Encryption is a security protection measure for your data. It is a form of cryptography and a process whereby personal data becomes an encoded and unintelligible version that uses encryption algorithms and an encryption key. That is how a decryption key or code enables users to decode it again.

mSpy is a company that offers digital products to customers. This means that we take all possible security measures to protect our clients’ privacy.

In particular, mSpy improves clients’ privacy with the Crypt key file method that uses asymmetric encryption. This means that no one can access our clients’ data without their private mSpy key file.

What Is Encrypted Data On mSpy?

At mSpy, we use the latest encryption and protection technologies and standards. As you use our services, you import into your account information you have collected from target devices. All the mSpy encrypted data is stored on our servers.

Note that the information downloaded by a user to their device or browser is not encrypted. So, a user is solely responsible for securing it.

We apply security hardware and software updates and network scanning procedures to safeguard and secure your personal data. We also follow generally accepted industry security standards.

mSpy stores your personal data in an encrypted way. We use asymmetric public-private key cryptosystem RSA with a key size is 4096 bit (further RSA), and symmetric-key algorithm AES with key size is 256 bit (further AES).

How Does the Asymmetric Encryption Work?

The crypt key file does not replace a client’s password. Instead, it adds an extra layer of encryption to their account.

The files in a client’s account are encrypted with a different key. You need to download your private encryption key. Note that you should keep the key secret and avoid disclosing it to anyone.

The file is downloaded once and will only be used when a password reset is needed.

How to Get Your mSpy Key File?

how to get your mspy key file

If you’re a new client, you need to download your key files during the app installation process. You can also get the key emailed while you’re registering with mSpy.

Existing clients can download the key from the Device Management section in their mSpy control panel. The file should be downloaded to your devices or sent to your registered mSpy email address linked to your account.

How to Use Your Private Key?

If you want to reset your password, you need to provide your previously downloaded private key file. The system requires it to accomplish password resetting. Otherwise, the process won’t be completed.

The password change is performed according to the same scheme. If you forget your passwords, the recovery process will only be done with your private key file.

If you lose your private key file but remember your username and password, you can request a new key.  Just access your control panel to do it.

Summing Up: Is mSpy Safe to Use?

mSpy is continuously improving its products and updates security measures. We take care of your data’s safety and understand the value of your privacy. That’s why we use advanced asymmetric encryption.

If you have questions about any security or data privacy-related issues, feel free to contact our support team. We also recommend that you read our Legal Policy before purchasing a subscription.

  • I have installed this software on my kids phone, following the steps provided. I have forgotten the password so I sent an e-mail link to change it. After that I logged in but asked me for the encryption key, I skipped that part by writting Agree and continuing. I was able to see the location of the device, but the rest of the data showed as “encrypted”. I tried sending myself a message from that phone, waited 5 minute, looked at messages from mspy account and it showed up, but could not see the name of the sender or phone number, it still shows everything encrypted. Can you help me out, I paid a lot of money and now I feel scammed.

    • Hello, Alexandra! Unfortunately, you can’t restore it now. We use encryption to protect your data, so no one else can access the information in your account without having the encryption key. We’ve notified you in the initial email when sending the key that changing the password without it will automatically encrypt all the data in your account. There should also have been a notification in your dashboard informing you about it once again.
      Please contact our technical support via email or chat and they’ll help you sort this situation out.

  • I need to know how I can start seeing the info again in the phone that I’m tracking. I reset my password without the key file and all the info I had is encrypted now but why won’t it show me the new info. It just stopped showing me everything like they’re not using their phone anymore. I want to go back to reading their messages and seeing the calls.

    • Hi, Taylor! How long has it been since you received any data from the device? Were there any notifications about lost connection in your dashboard?
      You can always contact our technical support team, they will help you out. Just let us know your account ID in the chat or via email.

  • I’m not getting any information anymore and I don’t get Facebook messages or phone messages or his conversations on Chrome

  • I had exaclty the same situation. It is not fair as I am not an english native and I did not understand this mechanism but the solution to change password is easy to understand. How can it be like this ? It feels like if you are trapped.

    • Hello, Stéphane! I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve encountered this problem as well. These precautions are imposed to make sure that your data is safe, and no other person can access it. The information about it is also included in the installation guide, which is provided in multiple languages. Was it not available in your language? Or was the point about the encryption key not highlighted enough? Could you please let me know?

  • I have reset the password but forgot to upload the private key hence all data is encrypted.

    I need to know the procedure to decrypt it.

    • Hi, Yudvir! Unfortunately, you can’t restore the encrypted data due to security protocols. You might need to reconnect the device once again for the data to start coming through again. Please reach out to our technical support, they will tell you more about it.

  • If you reset the password without the key file, all the information that has been stored in your mSpy account prior to the password reset will become encrypted. There will be no way to restore it!

    is that still the case? if yes it is ridiculous, to grave a decision like this in the stone, I understand you want to protect client.

    but it is important to reverse this. just ask for the key and unencrypted the data . simple.

    i change my password and i was not reading carefully, and now all the data are encrypted , Ok but so wrong I should be able to provide the key somehow to get the data back.

    • Hi! Yes, the encryption key is still required to reset the password. Sorry that this happened to you. Please talk to our technical support, maybe they’ll be able to figure out how to help you.
      Meanwhile, I’ll pass your comment to the product development department. We’ll try to make the password reset requirements a bit more clear in the next product updates.
      Thank you for the feedback!
