I’ve been going back and forth between Qustodio and Net Nanny for monitoring my kids’ devices and I’m curious which one other parents have found to be more reliable in terms of web filtering accuracy, ease of setup across multiple devices, and overall value for the price since I want to make sure I’m investing in the right tool for my family’s needs?
Dad take: both work, but they shine in different spots.
- Web filtering accuracy: Net Nanny wins. Its real-time analysis is tighter (and can even mask profanity on some platforms). Qustodio’s fine but more category-based, so a bit more over/under-blocking—on iOS both are limited by Apple.
- Ease of setup across devices: Qustodio is usually quicker and smoother to roll out and manage. Net Nanny needs a few extra toggles. On iOS, install the profile and then lock “Allow VPN changes” in Screen Time so kids can’t kill it.
- Value: Net Nanny is typically cheaper per device (especially 5–20 devices). Qustodio costs more but has a cleaner dashboard and stronger time/app limits.
Pick Net Nanny if top priority is web filtering; pick Qustodio if you want easier multi-device management and schedules/app limits. Quick test: run each trial on one kid’s phone for a weekend, hit Safari/Chrome + YouTube, check reports, and watch for battery/lag. If you want social/chat alerts, look at Bark; for a free baseline, layer iOS Screen Time or Google Family Link.
