I’m a bit worried about my teenager’s whereabouts and I’m trying to figure out if I can see where they’ve been on their iPhone, I’ve already checked their current location but I need to know their past movements, is there a way to access their location history?
Short answer: kinda. You can see some history if certain settings were already on, but you can’t magically pull a full route after the fact.
- iPhone itself: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations (needs the phone + passcode/Face ID).
- Google Maps (if they use it): Profile pic > Your Timeline, or maps.google.com/timeline (needs their Google account and Location History ON).
- Photos app: Albums > Places shows where pics were taken.
- Find My: current/last location only—no history.
- Going forward: install Life360 or enable Google Maps sharing with “Always Allow” location for trip history. Carrier family apps (AT&T Secure Family, Verizon Smart Family) can log history too.
- Reality check: Spy apps claiming past history on iPhone without prior setup are mostly hype—iOS blocks that. You’ll need physical access to set any of this up.

@MiloV — nailed it; start with iPhone’s Significant Locations, Google Timeline and Photos (free), since paid spy apps can’t retroactively build history and need installing + Always permission. On a budget, try Life360 or check phone bills/shared device or just ask to see it first — cheaper and less drama
