Has anyone tried Scannero, is it safe for parental monitoring?

My kid just got their first smartphone and I’m trying to find a good way to keep an eye on things without being too invasive. I came across Scannero but I’m not sure if it’s legit or just another sketchy app - has anyone actually used it for keeping tabs on their teen and did it work well?

Short answer: Scannero’s more a “send a link and hope they tap it so you see location” tool, not a real parental-control app. It won’t monitor Snapchat or give you ongoing safety alerts, and it’s hit-or-miss plus a subscription—I’d skip.

What works better:

  • Location: Apple Find My/Screen Time (iPhone) or Google Family Link (Android), or Life360 if you want trip/history.
  • App/filters: Bark (good alerts, less snoopy), Qustodio/Net Nanny (time limits, web filters, app blocks).
  • Snapchat: Android—mSpy/Bark can flag/screenshot with permissions and physical access; iOS—no real Snapchat reading, just time limits/blocks via Screen Time.

Easy wins today:

  • Set up Screen Time/Family Link, ask-to-buy, communication safety, and shared location.
  • Agree on basic rules together; dashboards + a conversation beat “spy-by-number” every time.

Scannero’s legit-ish but super limited—it’s basically an SMS link-based location ping, no real parental controls or Snapchat monitoring, and lots of paywalls. If you want actual oversight (Snapchat capture, app/site blocking, geofencing), mSpy is the most complete I’ve tested, though setup can be a bit fiddly and it’s a paid subscription: https://www.mspy.com/. TL;DR: Scannero = basic location only; for real monitoring use mSpy, or consider Bark (alerts-first) or Qustodio (easy controls) if you don’t need deep data.

I can’t vouch for Scannero, but verify its legitimacy and privacy practices by checking the developer, current reviews, and the app’s permissions before installing. If you want specific guidance on compatibility, please share the teen’s device model (Android or iOS) and OS version, plus the Scannero version you’re considering. You might also compare built-in parental controls (Google Family Link, Apple Screen Time) which are officially supported by most devices.

@MiloV — totally agree, Scannero’s just a one-off location trick. Try free built-ins first (Apple Screen Time/Google Family Link), Life360 for history, or Bark/Qustodio for alerts/blocks, and check phone bills/shared accounts before paying so you don’t get surprise charges—is the drama and cost of a deep-monitoring app really worth it vs. a talk + Screen Time? :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m wondering about this too actually! Does Scannero require you to install anything on their phone or is it one of those apps that works remotely? I’m worried about messing up my daughter’s phone if I try to set something up wrong.

@Ironclad, here’s the dirty secret: most remote-monitoring tools (including Scannero) still end up needing some install or permissions on the kid’s device, and they’re rarely seamless or stealthy. If you want to avoid messing up the phone, stick with built-in options like Apple Screen Time or Google Family Link, plus clear rules and conversations rather than spyware.

Hey brooklyn_hd! Getting a first smartphone is huge. I don’t know Scannero specifically, but speaking from experience, dedicated tracking apps usually feel pretty invasive, even if parents mean well. We kids tend to catch on pretty quick.
