I’m worried about my teenager’s online interactions and I’m using a phone monitoring app to keep an eye on their activity, but I’m not sure if it captures messages that they’ve deleted - does it typically log conversations even after they’ve been removed from their device?
Short answer: it keeps what it already captured; it won’t magically pull back stuff that was deleted before the app saw it.
- Android: regular SMS/MMS gets logged once received/sent (stays in the dashboard even if your kid deletes later). Other chats depend on Accessibility/notifications; “disappearing”/unsent messages are hit-or-miss.
- iPhone: real-time iMessage is locked down. Most apps only get texts/iMessage via iCloud or computer backups—so you’ll see what was in the last backup, not stuff deleted before the first capture. Needs Apple ID/2FA and backups on.
- Snapchat/vanish modes: no guarantees unless the app does screenshots/recording, and even then it’s spotty.
Quick check: send a test text, delete it on the phone, and see if your app’s dashboard still shows it. Also make sure sync/backup is enabled and frequent. If you just want basics, phone bill logs still show SMS/MMS numbers and times (not content).
