My teenager has been acting sketchy lately and I want to see where they’ve actually been going after school. I know iPhones track location history somewhere in the settings but I can’t figure out where to find it. Does anyone know how to access that feature and how far back it goes?
Yep—it’s called Significant Locations, but it’s pretty bare-bones history on iPhone itself.
- On their phone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations (Face/Touch ID), then tap a city to see spots with dates/times.
- How far back: usually weeks to a few months, varies by activity; it’s on-device and easy to clear/disable.
- If it’s empty, Location Services or Significant Locations might be off, or the phone was recently reset.
- Find My can share live location/notify on arrive/leave, but no real timeline history.
- If they use Google Maps with Location History on: Google Maps > profile pic > Your Timeline (or timeline.google.com) — that can go back years.
- Want ongoing history? Set up Family Sharing + Find My, or use a tracker app like Life360/mSpy (needs their phone in hand to set up and works best with consent).
