Which is the better parental control app, bark vs kidslox?

I’m trying to decide between Bark and Kidslox for my 10-year-old’s first phone; Bark seems great for monitoring texts and social media for potential dangers but feels a bit invasive, while Kidslox is simpler for managing screen time and app access but might not catch the subtler online risks - which one do you think strikes the right balance for a curious tween?

  • If it’s an iPhone: go Kidslox + Apple Screen Time. Bark’s iOS message monitoring needs backup workarounds and is hit-or-miss.
  • If it’s Android: Bark Premium is the better safety net for texts/social; tune alerts so you only see red flags, not every chat.
  • For a 10-year-old’s first phone, I’d start simple (Kidslox/built-ins, no social yet), then add Bark later if/when they branch out.
  • Bonus: if you want training wheels, the Bark Phone is a solid “set it and forget it” option.
